I am primarily using a route published by Cicerone in their End to End guide. This has the benefit of keeping mostly to minor roads and provides a two week schedule which seems suitable for a single speed ride. The route broadly follows the south coast through Cornwall and Devon before crossing Dartmoor and heading up to the Bristol Channel. From there the route enters south Wales before heading north through the Welsh Marches and onto the Cheshire Plain. Onwards to Keswick in the Lake District, via Carlisle to reach Glasgow. The final stages are via Glencoe and Inverness, then up to the coast of Caithness to reach Dunnet Head and eventually John O'Groats:
Stage 1 - Thu Sept 18th - 75 miles - Land's End to St Austell via Lizard Point
Stage 2 - Fri Sept 19th - 65 miles - St Austell to Moretonhampstead
Stage 3 - Sat Sept 20th - 74 miles - Moretonhampstead to Glastonbury
Stage 4 - Sun Sept 21st - 66 miles - Glastonbury to Monmouth
Stage 5 - Mon Sept 22nd - 53 miles - Monmouth to Bishops Castle
Stage 6 - Tue Sept 23rd - 80 miles - Bishops Castle to Northwich
Stage 7 - Wed Sept 24th - 63 miles - Northwich to Slaidburn
Stage 8 - Thu Sept 25th - 71 miles - Slaidburn to Keswick
Stage 9 - Fri Sept 26th - 72 miles - Keswick to Moffat
Stage 10 - Sat Sept 27th - 85 miles - Moffat to Loch Lomond
Stage 11 - Sun Sept 28th - 68 miles - Loch Lomond to Glencoe
Stage 12 - Mon Sept 29th - 83 miles - Glencoe to Inverness
Stage 13 - Tue Sept 30th - 66 miles - Inverness to The Crask Inn
Stage 14 - Wed Oct 1st - 93 miles - The Crask Inn to John O'Groats via Dunnet Head
In total, 1,014 miles (1,631 Km) at an average of 72 miles (115 Km) per day!
See individual day maps below for the detailed route and ascent profile. The maps are shown in North - South sequence, so the route starts at the bottom of the page!
